Tips For Improving Your Home’s Outdoor Space

Now more than ever, we have all learned the importance of making our homes comfortable places to be. Our backyards should be no exception, yet they tend not to receive as much love and attention as our indoor spaces. Thankfully for you, this article highlights many fantastic and fun ways to improve your outdoor space and transform it into the escape it deserves to be.

Spring and summertime are just around the corner, which means outdoor time is going up. Whether you are big on hosting parties or just looking to make the most of your yard, these tips are for you!

Out with the Old, In with the New

You may already have some outdoor furniture like a table and chairs, but they can start to look run down after several seasons enduring outdoor weather conditions. Cushions can start to look faded, metal furniture rusts, or it can just start to look drab. No matter the reason, a relatively simple way to revamp your outdoor space is with new, coordinated, and stylish outdoor furniture. What makes this even better is that you can get rid of that furniture the same day with the help of a junk removal company. They do all the heavy lifting for you and leave you with the space to bring new furniture in.

Pergola or Covered Space

Inevitably, there will be days that the sun is just too hot to be in its rays. For those days when you want to enjoy the weather without the risk of sunburn, you may consider an outdoor covered structure like a pergola or awning. Some pergolas can be set up with canopies to get you into the shade and enjoy your outdoor space. In addition, retractable awnings can be installed onto the side of your house to cover sitting or dining areas. These simple additions not only add style to your yard but a considerable amount of usability to your spaces on warmer days!

Take a Load off with Relaxed Seating

For those warm summer days, cool mornings, or relaxing afternoons, we recommend some relaxed seating options. There are so many options for setting up hammocks in the yard (or under a pergola). Daybeds work well in almost any backyard, but they shine by the pool. No matter which style you choose, they all are great for a mid-afternoon nap or a great place to lounge at.

Upgrade Your Outdoor Cooking Experience

If you are a foodie or just like a nice pizza, then this one is for you. Outdoor pizza ovens have surged in popularity for obvious reasons; who wouldn’t want to make their own pizza? For roughly the same price as your favorite delivery place, you can buy the ingredients and make pizza just a few feet from your backyard in a fraction of the time. Most new outdoor pizza ovens can warm up in under 10 minutes, and once it is warm, the cooking time is only three to four minutes.

The outdoor oven is not just for pizza! Loaves of bread, pies, meats, fish, vegetables, and so much more can also be cooked inside these ovens. It is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser for guests and parties.

Add Some Outdoor Lighting

While it may seem simple, outdoor lighting can go a long way in making your outdoor space seem more inviting. One of the most common ways is with string lights. String lights hanging from a fence, pergola, or wall can bring a nice charm to a seating area. Lighting on pathways and the driveway can make your outdoor space seem safer too. Illuminating your outdoor spaces, in conjunction with some of the other ideas on our list, will make you want to spend more warm summer nights and cool fall nights outside.

Gather the Family Around a Fire Pit

Fire pits are easy, affordable, and in some cases, great DIY backyard additions that you can do on the weekend. They are great for chilly fall nights with friends and family. Some will even build a wall to sit on from the same material to bring a cohesive identity to the area. Fire pits can be made of a multitude of materials, and in most cases, you can pick up the materials you need from your local Home Depot or Lowe’s for under $100. We recommend you put in the research and see the various types of professionally built and DIY options available for your yard!

Let Your Garden Grow

This past year has shown us that we all have a bit of a green thumb in us! According to a survey from Scotts Miracle-Gro, during the COVID-19 pandemic, 55% of U.S. adults spent time gardening. Tend to bushes, plot out flowers, and create a beautiful visual that you and visitors can enjoy in your backyard.

Gardening is also a great way to have a more personal connection with your food, and most say that freshly grown food just tastes better! We recommend setting up an area for herbs and one for vegetables. Homegrown food goes a long way for your diet and is an excellent hobby if you have kids to teach them sustainability!

Rugs & Decor

In conjunction with new furniture, you can spruce up a seating area or dining area with decor and rugs. Throw pillows, colorful rugs, and potted plants of all varieties can make your spaces feel more inviting and lived in! Deciding on colors and implementing them as accents around the backyard can bring your space together and make it look more cohesive too.

Integrate Solar Power for Your Outdoor Haven

Incorporating solar energy into your outdoor space can significantly enhance its sustainability and reduce your carbon footprint. Consider solar-powered lighting fixtures, water features, or fountain pumps to minimize energy consumption while still creating a nice ambience for your space. By doing this, you not only create an eco-friendly outdoor oasis but also contribute to a greener future for generations to come.

No matter how you decide to upgrade your yard, these suggestions can go a long way in getting you started! Take the time to see what your yard is, what it needs, and what it could be. Have fun with it, and improve your yard to what you want it to be! Happy home improvement!
